Our Staff
All St. Peter the Aleut Orthodox Summer Camp staff are faithful Orthodox Christians who each summer volunteer their time, talents and energy for the benefit of the youth of the Alberta Deanery. With at least 20 people making up the staff team, many years of combined camp and youth work experience come together to provide a camp program that is excellent. Many of our staff have grown up attending through the years as campers and are eager to return to share their great experiences with the current campers!
Headed by a Camp Director and Camp Chaplain, the staff team consists of various volunteer positions including counsellors, kitchen crew, activity and craft experts, a teacher, and full-time camp nurse. Our staff-in-training (SIT) program brings high school students to camp and gives them an opportunity to learn what it is like in the many different roles at camp through hands-on experience. A counselor heads up each cabin group which never exceeds eight campers.
All staff are screened carefully before attending camp. Through a detailed application process which includes completing a Criminal Records Check and having personal references contacted, everything is done to ensure the best people for the job are at camp.
A mandatory staff training day occurs prior to the beginning of camp. Important topics are covered such as staff expectations and conduct, emergency procedures, inclusion, behavior management, bullying prevention, and different age group characteristics among others.
